ALBUM OF THE MONTH

mclfor

Forster/McLennan - Intermission (Beggars Banquet)
This is a fantastic compilation of each of the solo Go-Between’s recordings made between 1990-97 which was being put together before Grants untimely death last year. Sounding like a missing Go-Betweens album when you hear them together, its a must have in this format neatly packaged with a book of lyrics before they are sold as separate albums.. Genius.

BEST OF THE REST THIS MONTH

Pigeon Detectives - Wait For Me (Dance To The Radio)
Power-pop makes a come back with this album containing all the singles released over the past year. Like a Leeds version of the Buzzcocks or The Undertones, The Pigeon Detectives write simple guitar based songs about chatting up girls, breaking up with girls and all that goes on inbetween. Hardly ground-breaking but good, catchy tunes are in short supply right now.

The Rosewood Thieves - from The Decker House (V2)
Heavily influenced by a 60s sound, the Rosewood Thieves put together a mini-album of sun-drenched West Coast pop that would not sound out of place on a Bam Caruso Psyche-Pop album. Part Sgt Pepper era Beatles and part Sleepy Jackson, its the perfect way to dream away a wet British summer afternoon....
