SINGLE OF THE MONTH

pigfound7

Pigeon Detective - I Found Out (Dance tothe Radio)
Third single this year from the Leeds 4 piece sees their most commercial tune get an airing. They were brilliant in Barfly the other month. I found out is a top piece of guitar-pop that The Killers would kill for! Another band who will make it next year. Rubbish name mind!

BEST OF THE REST THIS  MONTH

Yeti - One Eye on the Banquet EP (Yeti)
Issued on their own label in a ridiculously limited number (400?) after  two excellent singles last year on Moshi Moshi. Upbeat pop with a 60s feel, first track This Will Be The Last Time could easily be a lost La’s track if you didn’t know. Second track, The Money God is a nice jaunty acoustic number that steals riffs from The Man Who Stole The World a bit too much, but good all the same. Woth tracking down.

Guillemots - Of the Night EP (Sea Accident)
Another band issuing records on their own label?! The Guillemots release a 4 track EP of songs from their Roundhouse Electric Proms gig on 1000 CD and 12”. First track She’s Evil got an airing as the encore at their Cardiff Barfly gig in April. Tracks The Rising Tide and By The Water (the latter with Aristazabel on vocals) are head and shoulders above the standard of usual Guillemots noodling B-Sides of late. Get one while you can..
